Ozzy Osbourne’s Secret Struggle: Rock Legend Reveals He Nearly Took His Own Life After Botched Neck Surgery

Rock icon Ozzy Osbourne — the “Prince of Darkness” who defined an era of heavy metal — has made a heartbreaking confession. In an upcoming Paramount+ documentary, Ozzy: No Escape From Now, the late Black Sabbath frontman reveals that a disastrous neck surgery left him in such agony and despair that he seriously considered ending his own life.

“The thought of not doing any gigs anymore — I went really into depression,” Ozzy admits in the film. “I’m on antidepressants now. Because I was getting ready to off myself at some point.”

The 76-year-old music legend, who passed away on July 22, had endured years of excruciating pain after a 2019 fall displaced metal rods that had been inserted during recovery from a 2003 ATV crash. Multiple surgeries followed, and what was meant to heal him only compounded his suffering.

In classic Ozzy fashion, his dark humor ultimately saved him. “Knowing me, I’d half-do it and I’d be half-dead,” he quips in the documentary. “That’s my luck.”

The documentary doesn’t just feature Ozzy — his family also opens up about the devastating impact of his failed medical procedures.

Sharon Osbourne, 72, says the botched neck operation “triggered” Ozzy’s health collapse, which had already been accelerated by Parkinson’s disease — a diagnosis he revealed in 2020. She explains that one surgeon used screws and metal plates that “didn’t need doing,” causing even more damage.

Their son Jack, 39, is visibly furious in the film. “The Parkinson’s is progressing, but the main problem is the nerve damage from the bad neck surgery,” he says. “That f—— doctor stripped him of his abilities to move. It makes me so angry, because I felt like all this could have been avoided.”

Ozzy’s death in July came just weeks after he reunited with Black Sabbath for a farewell concert — a bittersweet moment for fans. His family released a statement that read, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.”

Long before his death, Ozzy and Sharon were dogged by rumors of a suicide pact. In the documentary, daughter Kelly Osbourne, 40, angrily dismisses the claims as “bulls—.” Sharon herself had once remarked back in 2007 that the couple believed in euthanasia and had “drawn up plans” for assisted suicide if either ever suffered severe cognitive decline — but the family insists those conversations were taken out of context.

Ozzy: No Escape From Now promises to show a side of Ozzy Osbourne that fans have never truly seen — the vulnerable, heartbroken man behind the outrageous persona. It’s a raw, emotional farewell to a rock legend who lived louder, loved harder, and fought his demons until the end.
