White House Mocks Ilhan Omar with McDonald’s Meme

In a move that reignited one of Washington’s most bitter rivalries, the White House on Monday took a jab at Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., sharing a photo of President Donald Trump waving through a McDonald’s drive-thru window — and suggesting she could “go back” to Somalia.

The meme-style post on X (formerly Twitter) was a direct response to a resurfaced clip of Omar telling “The Dean Obeidallah Show” she wasn’t concerned about being deported.

“I have no worry. I don’t know how they’d take away my citizenship and deport me,” Omar said in the October interview. “I’m not the 8-year-old who escaped war anymore. I’m grown, my kids are grown. I could go live wherever I want.”

Within hours, the official White House account replied with the now-viral image of Trump smiling from a McDonald’s window — a photo taken during a 2024 campaign stop in Pennsylvania — alongside the caption: “Your order’s ready.”

The post instantly triggered outrage and applause in equal measure, with Trump supporters praising the trolling as “epic” and critics slamming it as “racist and juvenile.”

Omar’s story is well-known — and often weaponized. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, she fled the country’s brutal civil war in 1991 with her family, spending four years in a Kenyan refugee camp before arriving in Virginia in 1995. She later settled in Minneapolis, where she became a U.S. citizen in 2000.

She rose to prominence in local politics before winning her congressional seat in 2018, becoming one of the first Muslim women — and the first Somali American — ever elected to Congress.

But her outspoken criticism of U.S. foreign policy and strong support for Palestinian causes have made her a lightning rod for controversy, and an easy target for Trump’s campaign rallies.

President Trump’s feud with Omar dates back to his first term, when he infamously told Omar and other members of the progressive “Squad” — including Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley — to “go back to their broken and crime-infested countries.”

This year, Trump has escalated his attacks. On November 1, he posted a video of Omar speaking Somali on Truth Social, adding bluntly: “She should go back!”

In September, Trump told reporters that he had even joked with Somalia’s president about taking her back. “He said, ‘I don’t want her,’” Trump claimed at the time.

Omar fired back almost immediately, calling Trump’s story “fabricated nonsense.”
“From denying Somalia had a president to making up stories, President Trump is a lying buffoon,” Omar said in a statement. “No one should take this embarrassing fool seriously.”

The timing of the latest exchange is no coincidence. With the 2026 midterms already casting a shadow over Capitol Hill, Trump’s allies are reviving culture-war battles to rally conservative voters.

Political strategist Laura Martinez told The Hill: “This is classic Trump — using humor, trolling, and outrage to dominate the news cycle. The White House knows exactly what it’s doing.”

Omar, meanwhile, seems unfazed. When asked about Trump’s latest comments, she reportedly told supporters at a recent Minneapolis fundraiser, “I’ve survived a civil war. I’ll survive another Trump term.”

For Trump, who famously made fast food a symbol of his populist image, the McDonald’s meme fits right into his brand. During his first administration, he made headlines for serving burgers to the Clemson football team and has frequently called McDonald’s “the real American meal.”

As one X user quipped beneath the photo Monday night: “Only Trump could deport someone with a Happy Meal.”

Neither Omar’s office nor the White House has issued an official statement, but online, the message was clear — the feud between President Trump and Ilhan Omar is back on the menu.
