Hillary Clinton Now Facing Criminal Contempt After Over Epstein ‘No-Show’

Washington erupted Wednesday after House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer confirmed he will move forward with criminal contempt proceedings against Hillary Clinton. The announcement came less than 24 hours after he revealed former President Bill Clinton would face similar action for refusing to testify in the ongoing Jeffrey Epstein investigation.

Both Clintons were subpoenaed for closed-door depositions. Both skipped their scheduled appearances this week.

Comer said the stonewalling was expected — but still stunning.

“Americans deserve answers,” Comer told reporters. “This committee will not allow the Clintons to thumb their noses at Congress, especially on a matter involving one of the most notorious predators of our time.”

The clash didn’t begin this week. GOP investigators have battled the Clintons’ legal team for months over access to testimony and records connected to Epstein’s network, his flight logs, and the individuals who continued to move in his orbit long after his first arrest.

Republicans say the Clintons were treated for years as “off-limits” during earlier investigations — something that changed dramatically after Trump returned to the White House in 2025 and ordered a full review of all federal agencies’ handling of the Epstein files.

According to a senior Oversight staffer, the Clintons “pushed every procedural delay imaginable,” hoping the committee would settle for written statements.

“They kept trying to negotiate their way out of being questioned,” the staffer said. “But this committee isn’t in the business of special treatment anymore.”

Hours before Bill Clinton was scheduled to appear, the Clintons’ attorneys released a sharply worded letter accusing Comer and Republicans of weaponizing Congress.

“What you are doing is punitive, partisan, and completely unnecessary,” the pair wrote. “We have offered sworn statements. You are simply looking for television drama.”

The Clintons also accused lawmakers of failing to pressure the Justice Department enough to release the remaining Epstein documents — an accusation Comer dismissed as “laughable.”

“We’ve received hundreds of thousands of pages,” he said. “We’re still demanding more. That’s why testimony from key individuals matters.”

Investigators are especially focused on Hillary Clinton’s ties to Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell attended Chelsea Clinton’s wedding in 2010, a detail long dismissed by Clinton allies as a “social courtesy” but now receiving renewed scrutiny.

Republican committee lawyers say they want to know whether Maxwell had deeper access to the Clinton network — and whether federal agencies ignored red flags during the Obama years.

“It matters who had influence, and when,” a GOP investigator told us. “These were not random friendships.”

Bill Clinton has long denied wrongdoing related to Epstein, though his name appears repeatedly in flight logs and archived photographs from the late financier’s social circle.

Republicans say his testimony could clarify years of unanswered questions.

“Refusing to show up for a legal deposition only intensifies public suspicion,” said Rep. Mark Green, a Tennessee Republican. “If the former president had nothing to hide, he’d be sitting in that chair voluntarily.”

Comer confirmed he will formally initiate contempt proceedings for both Clintons on January 21, setting up a high-profile legal showdown in the early months of Trump’s second term.

“The American people have waited long enough,” Comer said. “This committee is done playing games.”

As one senior GOP aide put it, “The era of protecting political royalty is over.”
