The mother of New York City’s Democratic mayor, Zohran Mamdani, has surfaced in the massive dump of newly released Epstein documents — the first major disclosure since President Donald Trump’s Epstein Files Transparency Act took effect.
Her name appears in a 2009 email from Hollywood publicist Peggy Siegal to Epstein. The message listed attendees at an afterparty hosted inside Maxwell’s Manhattan townhouse.
The documents allege no wrongdoing by Nair. They merely record her presence. But the appearance of a mayor’s mother at a Maxwell-hosted gathering is already raising eyebrows in political circles.
The October 21, 2009 email describes an afterparty following the release of Amelia — a film directed by Nair and starring Hilary Swank and Richard Gere. Siegal’s message paints an odd picture of the night.
“Just left Ghislaine’s townhouse,” Siegal wrote. “Bill Clinton and Jeff Bezos were there… Jean Pigozzi, director Mira Nair… etc.”
She added that the movie received “a tepid reaction,” claiming women liked it more. “Hillary Swank and Gere are at stupid party in Bloomingdales cheap sportswear department… very weird,” she wrote. The email ends with the cryptic signoff: “More to come. xoxo Peg.”
The Department of Justice released the files on Friday — more than 3 million pages, including 2,000 videos and 180,000 images — all required under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed by President Trump in November 2025.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche called the release “the end of a very comprehensive review process to ensure transparency to the American people.”
Republicans are praising the act as a landmark moment in forcing sunlight onto powerful networks long shielded from scrutiny.
Democrats, however, are already complaining.
Some Democrats now claim the DOJ may still be holding back up to two-and-a-half million pages. Representative Ro Khanna — who helped craft the transparency law with Republican Thomas Massie — says he wants answers.
“There are still outstanding questions about the remaining documents,” Khanna said.
Republicans counter that the law is working as intended — and that the remaining files may still require national-security redactions.
The resurfacing of Nair’s name places Mayor Mamdani, already a controversial progressive figure, under renewed scrutiny. The mayor has positioned himself as a staunch critic of the Trump administration. Now his family’s brush with Epstein-world social circles is generating uncomfortable political chatter.
Epstein died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. His longtime associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, is serving a 20-year sentence.
The newly released documents provide fresh insight into the network of political, financial, and entertainment figures who interacted with Epstein and Maxwell — even if only socially.
And with the Transparency Act in full force, more names will likely make headlines.
Federal officials say Friday’s release nearly completes their mandate. But congressional Republicans demand full disclosure.
As one senior GOP aide told us Saturday:
“Every American deserves the truth. All of it. No exceptions.”
More revelations are likely coming. The pressure for total transparency — under President Trump’s directive — isn’t slowing down.
