Two people are dead and three more were wounded after police say a 69-year-old gunman unleashed a targeted shooting spree Tuesday in a Dallas-area shopping center before carrying out a second deadly attack nearby.
According to authorities, Seung Ho Han allegedly opened fire just before 10 a.m. at K Towne Plaza in Carrollton, a busy shopping center in the city’s Koreatown district. When officers arrived, they found four adults suffering from gunshot wounds. As police were still scrambling to secure the chaotic scene, another shooting was reported roughly four miles away at an apartment complex, where officers found a man dead inside.
Investigators say Han was behind both shootings. He was later taken into custody at a nearby grocery store after a brief chase on foot. Police said he admitted to the shootings during questioning and told detectives he was angry over financial disputes tied to business dealings with the victims.
Carrollton Police Chief Roberto Arredondo said the attack was not random and that the suspect knew the people he targeted. Authorities are still working to pin down the full motive, but early indications point to a personal business conflict that turned deadly. The three surviving victims were reported to be in stable condition.
The violence stunned residents in Carrollton, a city about 20 miles north of Dallas that has grown into a major hub for the Korean American community. K Towne Plaza and the surrounding Koreatown area are known for packed restaurants, markets, and family-owned businesses, making the bloodshed even more jarring for locals who say the neighborhood is usually peaceful.
Federal agents joined local law enforcement at the scene as investigators gathered evidence and tried to piece together exactly how the rampage unfolded. As of the latest reports, victim names had not been publicly released, and it was not immediately clear what charges would be filed first against the suspect.
