Jeff Bezos Defends ‘Melania’ Calls it a ‘Good Business Deal’

Jeff Bezos is firing back after critics accused Amazon of shelling out tens of millions for a Melania Trump documentary to score points with President Donald Trump — and the billionaire says the entire narrative is “just not correct.”

During a fiery appearance on CNBC’s Squawk Box, the Amazon founder denied having any personal involvement in the controversial Melania Trump film, which reportedly carried a jaw-dropping $75 million price tag between production and marketing costs.

Still, Bezos made one thing crystal clear: he believes the project was money well spent.

“I had nothing to do with that,” Bezos insisted when pressed about the documentary, which followed First Lady Melania Trump around the time of Trump’s second inauguration.

But despite distancing himself from the decision, Bezos doubled down on defending it.

“By the way, it appears it was a good business decision,” he added.

The documentary sparked outrage and speculation almost immediately after reports surfaced claiming Amazon poured roughly $40 million into production alone, with another estimated $35 million spent promoting the film worldwide.

Critics blasted the staggering budget after the movie reportedly earned only around $16 million globally during its theatrical run before heading to Amazon Prime Video.

That fueled accusations that the project may have been less about profits — and more about politics.

Some critics even suggested Bezos was trying to repair relations with Trump after years of tension between the president and The Washington Post, which Bezos owns.

But the billionaire rejected that theory outright.

“This idea that somehow that is a way of buying influence, it’s just not correct,” Bezos said.

He also pushed back on rumors claiming the documentary was discussed during meetings with Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

“The Melania thing is a falsehood that will not die,” Bezos complained, saying both Amazon and Melania Trump’s office had repeatedly denied the claims.

Even so, Bezos admitted he understands why skeptics remain suspicious.

“I can see why people say this,” he acknowledged before emphasizing that Amazon executives — not him — approved the project.

“Amazon’s a big company, it makes a lot of decisions,” he explained. “The Amazon team made a very wise business decision.”

And according to Bezos, Americans simply can’t get enough of Melania Trump.

He argued the documentary performed strongly once it hit streaming platforms, saying viewers were deeply curious about the famously private first lady.

“It did very well in theaters, it has done very well on streaming, people are very curious about Melania,” Bezos claimed.

The billionaire also took time to defend The Washington Post amid growing criticism from conservatives and media insiders who claim the paper’s editorial tone has shifted under his ownership.

Bezos said he wants the paper’s opinion section to focus on “free markets” and “individual personal liberties,” calling those principles the “founding pillars” of America.

The explosive interview comes as Bezos continues walking a political tightrope while balancing his relationships with corporate America, legacy media, and Trump’s White House — all while critics on both sides continue questioning where his loyalties truly lie.
