Costco shoppers are being warned to stop using a popular patio swing immediately after multiple reports claimed the seat suddenly snapped loose while people were sitting on it — leaving several customers injured and raising fears over what federal officials say could become a deadly accident.
The alarming recall involves the Agio Menlo Woven Patio Swing, a Costco-exclusive outdoor furniture item that retailed for as much as $649 earlier this year. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the swing’s seat can unexpectedly detach from the frame during use, creating what officials described as a serious fall hazard that could potentially lead to “serious injury or death.”
So far, at least eight incidents have been reported involving the swing collapsing while in use. All eight incidents reportedly resulted in injuries, including blows to the head and arm injuries suffered by unsuspecting customers who suddenly crashed to the ground.
The recall affects approximately 18,500 patio swings sold at Costco warehouses nationwide and through Costco’s website between February and March 2026.
The recalled swings feature a black metal frame, brown woven wicker seating, a fabric canopy and padded cushions designed for outdoor lounging. Federal officials say faulty hooks connected to the swing seat appear to be at the center of the problem.
Consumers are now being told to immediately stop using the swings until repairs are completed.
The manufacturer, World Bright International Limited, is offering free repair kits that include replacement hooks and installation instructions. The company says customers can request the repair kit by contacting its recall hotline or visiting the company’s website.
The recall is adding to growing consumer frustration over repeated product safety scares involving imported household goods sold by major retailers. The swings were manufactured in China and imported by Costco Wholesale Corporation, which has faced increasing scrutiny in recent years over recalls tied to consumer products.
Customers who purchased the recalled swing can contact the company toll-free at 888-383-1932 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Eastern Time Monday through Friday, email recall@agioliving.com, or visit the recall page online for more information.
For many families gearing up for summer, what was supposed to be a relaxing backyard centerpiece has now turned into a serious safety warning.
