LG Recalls 500K Ovens After Dozens of Fires Lead to Injuries and Dead Pets

LG Electronics is recalling nearly 500,000 ovens sold across the U.S. due to a serious fire hazard that has already caused injuries, property damage, and the deaths of pets. This recall was announced Wednesday and is being overseen by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The issue stems from ovens with front-mounted knobs, which can be accidentally turned on, posing a major safety risk. According to the CPSC, there have been at least 86 reports of these heating elements being unintentionally activated. In fact, the faulty ovens have been linked to over 28 fires, with five of these causing significant property damage exceeding $340,000.

In addition to the property damage, the recall is associated with eight minor injuries, including burns, and three fires that tragically resulted in the deaths of pets.

These ovens were sold at major retailers like Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot, and Lowe’s, as well as online at LG.com. They were available between 2015 and January 2025, with prices ranging from $1,400 to $2,650 depending on the model.

Manufactured in Mexico and South Korea, the affected ovens were distributed by LG Electronics Inc. based in Englewood Cliffs, NJ.

The recall applies to LG’s Slide-In Ranges and Freestanding Ranges that feature front-mounted knobs. A complete list of the affected model and serial numbers can be found on LG’s official recall page.

If you own one of the affected ovens, LG is offering a free warning label and placement instructions to help prevent accidental activation of the heating elements. The label serves as a reminder to use the oven’s control lock function to ensure safety.

In the recall notice, LG urges consumers to take precautions:

  • Keep children and pets away from the knobs.
  • Always check that the oven knobs are off before leaving home or going to bed.
  • Never leave objects on the oven when it is not in use.

If you own an affected oven, you can reach out to LG Electronics for assistance. They can be contacted at 800-399-3265 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or by email at lgrange.recall@lge.com. You can also visit the recall page at lgecares.com/rangerecall for more information.

This is not the first time an oven recall has been issued due to unintentional activation. In 2024, Samsung recalled over 1.1 million ovens following a similar issue, with reports of around 250 fires and multiple pet deaths.

The CPSC has previously warned consumers about the dangers of oven knobs being inadvertently turned on, which can ignite fires. Between 2018 and May 2024, the agency documented 338 incidents involving unintentional activation of cooktops and ovens. These incidents have led to several fatalities and nonfatal injuries.

LG Electronics has reassured consumers that its ovens come with a safety feature called “Control Lock” (also referred to as “Lock Out”), which is designed to prevent accidental activation. Since 2015, this function has been included in their electric ranges with front-mounted knobs, but LG is now emphasizing its importance with more prominent labels.

When activated, this unique safety function locks the cooktop heating elements, even if the knob is turned. LG has expressed pride in this patented invention, which is intended to enhance the safety of their ranges.

Consumers are strongly encouraged to use this feature to avoid any potential safety risks.

  1. We had two fires in our house because of the range knobs being bumped. Luckily, we were able to put the fires out. It took some elbow grease to clean the stove top. Now, there is some pitting buy one of the heating elements. Yahoo Mail – Email Simplified
