Phil Collins Comeback Sparks New Death Fears

Phil Collins may be eyeing one more shot at the spotlight, but those closest to the Genesis legend are reportedly worried the beloved singer could be risking far more than a shaky performance.

The 75-year-old music icon has been through years of brutal health setbacks that left him using a wheelchair and unable to play the drums the way fans remember. Now, as Collins hints that he may still have unfinished music left in him, insiders fear the comeback could come at a dangerous cost.

“Phil’s made great strides in recent times,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “That said, he’s still not out of the woods by any means.”

Collins, best known for hits like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds, has been painfully honest about the toll his health problems have taken. The former Genesis frontman recently admitted that his body seemed to turn against him all at once.

“I had everything that could go wrong with me, go wrong with me,” Collins said. “I mean, I got COVID in the hospital, my kidneys started to back up … everything that could have all seemed to converge at the same time.

“I’ve been sick, I’ve been very sick.”

The singer has also battled type 2 diabetes, serious mobility issues, kidney trouble and years of physical wear from a lifetime on stage. At one point, he reportedly relied on a live-in nurse around the clock to make sure he took his medication. Last year, rumors even spread that he was in hospice care, though his team strongly denied those claims.

Collins has also admitted alcohol played a role in some of his health struggles, including kidney issues. However, he said he has now been sober for more than two years.

According to one insider, the legendary performer is feeling sharper and more clear-headed now that he is off alcohol, but that does not mean he is ready to throw himself back into the punishing demands of show business.

“He’s out and about a lot more now and feeling so much more clear-headed since he got sober,” the source said. “But there’s good reason why he’s under strict orders not to overdo things.”

Still, Collins appears to be thinking about music again. In January, he teased that he still has material that has not seen the light of day.

“I’ve got some things that are half formed or were never finished, and a couple of things that were finished, which I like,” he said.

Then came the line that set fans buzzing.

“There may be life in the old dog. You’ll see.”

For longtime fans, that sounds like the kind of fighting spirit that made Collins one of the biggest names in music. But to those who know how fragile his health has become, it may also sound like a warning sign.

One insider said Collins has never been the type to do anything halfway. If he returns to music, loved ones fear he may push himself beyond his limits, especially after years of surgeries and medical setbacks.

“He’s had five knee operations — not to mention all the other medical hardships he’s faced,” the source said. “A full-on comeback is a recipe for disaster as far as his loved ones are concerned.”

Those close to Collins reportedly fear he could end up like an aging fighter who keeps stepping back into the ring long after his body has taken too many hits.

“They fear he’s like a boxer who keeps climbing back in the ring well past his prime,” the source said. “Pushing himself too hard could cost him everything.”

Collins’ fans have watched the singer endure a heartbreaking physical decline in public. During Genesis’ final tour, he performed seated while his son, Nic Collins, handled the drums. It was a powerful but sobering sight for anyone who remembers Collins as the explosive drummer and frontman who helped define an era of rock and pop music.

Now, the question hanging over his possible return is whether it would be a triumphant comeback or a dangerous gamble.

For Collins, the pull of the stage may still be strong. For his loved ones, the fear is that one last comeback could take too much from a man who has already given nearly everything to music.
