6-Year-Old Girl Airlifted to Hospital After Suffering Serious Burns in Barbecue Fire

A six-year-old girl was airlifted to a specialist hospital in London after suffering serious burns in a barbecue fire in Crawley.

Emergency services rushed to Worth Road in the West Sussex town on Sunday evening, June 14, after reports that two people had been injured in the fire.

The young girl suffered serious burns and was taken to King’s College Hospital in London for further treatment.

Her father, a 38-year-old man, was also injured in the incident. Police said he sustained minor burns and was taken to hospital as well.

The fire sparked a major emergency response in the area. Worth Road was closed off as emergency crews attended the scene, and an air ambulance was among the services called in.

Multiple emergency vehicles were seen near the entrance to Knepp Close playing fields as crews responded to the frightening incident.

Sussex Police officers also attended to support the emergency response. The force said an increased police presence remained visible in the area afterward.

“Emergency services attended an address in Worth Road, Crawley on Sunday evening after it was reported that two people had been injured in a BBQ fire,” Sussex Police said.

“A six-year-old girl sustained serious burns, and a 38-year-old man was also injured, sustaining minor burns. Both have been taken to hospital for treatment.”

The force added, “Officers attended to support the ongoing emergency response, and an increased presence currently remains visible in the area.”

Authorities have not yet revealed exactly how the fire started or how the girl and her father suffered their burns.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the barbecue fire remains ongoing.
