Groom Dies on Honeymoon After Jumping Headfirst Into Sea in Front of His New Wife

A newlywed groom’s honeymoon turned into an unthinkable tragedy after he jumped headfirst into the sea in front of his horrified wife and suffered fatal injuries.

Suleyman Sariefe, 27, had only been married for a matter of days when the horrifying incident unfolded during what was supposed to be a romantic getaway in Turkey.

Sariefe and his wife tied the knot on June 6 and were celebrating their honeymoon when they traveled to the Fethiye area, a scenic coastal destination known for its blue waters, cliffs and tourist beaches.

But on the third day of the trip, the celebration took a devastating turn.

According to reports, Sariefe jumped from a high spot into the ocean below. His wife was watching as he leaped into the water.

Moments later, the newlywed was pulled from the sea alive but gravely injured.

Sariefe had reportedly struck his head and suffered serious spinal injuries in the jump. Emergency responders rushed him to Mugla Sitki Kocman University Medical Faculty Hospital in Fethiye, where doctors fought to save his life.

He arrived in critical condition.

For 11 days, medics worked to keep him alive after the horrific fall. But despite their efforts, Sariefe died from his injuries nearly two weeks after the honeymoon accident.

The 27-year-old was reportedly from Turgutlu and worked at a pickle factory. His funeral was later held at Kutuk Minare Mosque.

The tragedy has left his young wife mourning the husband she had just married, after watching what should have been a joyful honeymoon memory become the moment that changed everything.

The heartbreaking case is a grim reminder of how quickly vacation thrills can turn deadly, especially when tourists jump from cliffs, rocks or elevated areas into unfamiliar water.

Sariefe’s death comes amid other recent vacation tragedies involving young travelers overseas, including the death of 19-year-old Orla Wates, a British teenager who was killed in a motorcycle crash while traveling in Vietnam.

Wates, who was preparing to attend Durham University, died after crashing on the Ha Giang Loop in northern Vietnam on April 2. Her parents later paid tribute to her as “beautiful, independent and very funny,” saying she “lived life to the full.”

After her death, her family said her organs were donated to patients in need, bringing them comfort amid their grief.

For Sariefe’s family, the pain is just beginning — a honeymoon meant to mark the start of a new life instead ended with a young bride losing her husband only days after saying “I do.”
