7-Year-Old Girl Killed by School Bus in Tragic Morning Accident

A 7-year-old girl was killed Wednesday morning after she was struck by a school bus in Rockland County, police said.

The tragic crash happened just after 9 a.m. at the intersection of Blauvelt Road and Manor Drive in Monsey, a densely populated neighborhood where many large families live and children are often out during the busy morning hours.

According to the Ramapo Police Department, the young girl was hit and killed by a Yeshiva school bus.

Police said the bus driver is 28 years old. Authorities said no criminality is suspected at this time, and the crash appears to have been a tragic accident.

The deadly incident has renewed attention on traffic safety in Ramapo, where police say protecting children on local roads is a major focus because of the size and makeup of the community.

Officers regularly run traffic safety education programs, and the department said it also takes an aggressive approach to enforcement.

According to police, more than 16,000 traffic citations were issued by the department over the last year.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, but officials have not indicated that charges are expected.
