Jill Biden Takes Swipe at Melania Trump

Jill Biden is taking a not-so-subtle shot at Melania Trump — claiming the East Wing was anything but glamorous when she moved into the White House in 2021.

The former first lady, 75, suggested Melania had barely used the traditional offices reserved for the president’s wife and her staff, leaving the space looking “dingy and dull” by the time Jill and former President Joe Biden arrived.

Jill made the eyebrow-raising remarks during a Sept. 1 appearance on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s On Me podcast while discussing her memoir, View From the East Wing.

The conversation turned emotional when Ferguson noted that the historic East Wing no longer exists in its former form after President Donald Trump began demolishing the structure in October 2025 to make way for a new ballroom.

Jill then appeared to aim directly at Melania without ever mentioning her by name.

“I mean, I was the last First Lady really who worked in that office,” she said.

Melania served as first lady during Trump’s first term from 2017 through 2021.

Jill continued, saying she loved the East Wing but was less than impressed by what she found when she moved in.

“When we moved in there, the previous inhabitant hadn’t used the office to work in,” she said.

According to Jill, the rooms needed some serious attention before she felt comfortable welcoming visitors.

“So it was kind of dingy and dull, and I said, ‘I can’t bring people here,’” she recalled.

Jill ultimately brought in celebrity interior designer Mark Sikes to give the offices a major makeover.

She said she wanted the revamped space to feel polished without becoming stuffy.

“I want people to come in and feel that it’s elegant, but to feel comfortable, like they can sort of plop on the couch,” she remembered telling Sikes.

But Jill’s criticism did not stop with the condition of the offices.

She also revealed that she later regretted not buying some of the furnishings after learning Trump planned to tear down the East Wing.

“Had I known, I would have purchased, like, everything in that office and taken it with me,” she said. “But who knew? Who knew?”

Jill claimed that shortly before Trump returned to the White House in January 2025, she received a call informing her that she could purchase some of the items remaining in the East Wing at full price.

During the call, she said a woman showed her shelves filled with pictures, vases and other decorative pieces.

Then came the part that apparently left Jill stunned.

She claimed she was told, “The next administration coming in is going to crush everything on these shelves.”

Jill did not hide her feelings about that alleged warning.

“It’s kind of almost rude and arrogant, right?” she said.

The comments offer a rare glimpse into the lingering tension surrounding the transition between the Biden and Trump families — and suggest Jill had plenty of opinions about how Melania handled one of the White House’s most famous spaces.

  1. IF THE OFFICE WAS SO HORRIBLE, WHY DID SHE WANT TO BUY THE FURNISHINGS? WHAT A BITTER LIAR. MELANIA HAS MORE CLASS IN HER BABY FINGER THAN JILL WILL EVER HAVE.
