Chris Cuomo Claims Biden Tried to Sabotage Democrats (Video)

Chris Cuomo is making an explosive claim about the chaotic final months of the 2024 presidential race, alleging that former President Joe Biden deliberately made life harder for Democrats after party leaders pressured him to abandon his reelection campaign.

The NewsNation host said during the September 24 episode of “The Chris Cuomo Project” that he believes Biden was furious over the effort to remove him from the top of the Democratic ticket and responded by helping Vice President Kamala Harris quickly become his replacement.

Cuomo went even further, claiming that Biden still privately talks about what happened.

“He was so pissed that they didn’t want him to run again, that I believe he submarined the whole thing,” Cuomo said.

“I believe he forced Harris on them, I believe he delayed it, I believe he screwed up the process, I believe he wanted to punish them for not letting him run again. I really believe that.”

Cuomo later claimed that Biden “will still tell people that he did it,” apparently referring to private conversations the former president has allegedly had since leaving office.

However, Cuomo did not identify the people who supposedly heard those conversations, and he offered no independent evidence showing Biden intentionally tried to sabotage Harris or the Democratic Party.

That distinction is important because the publicly documented timeline from 2024 shows a much more complicated political collapse.

Biden entered the summer of 2024 determined to seek another term, but his June 27 debate against Donald Trump triggered an extraordinary crisis inside his own party.

His halting performance immediately raised concerns among Democratic lawmakers, donors and strategists about whether he could continue campaigning effectively through November.

Pressure increased over the following weeks as more Democrats publicly urged Biden to step aside.

Biden ultimately announced on July 21, 2024, that he would end his reelection campaign, saying he believed withdrawing was in the best interest of both his party and the country.

Just minutes later, Biden publicly endorsed Harris.

“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President,” Biden wrote at the time, before calling on Democrats to unite behind her.

Harris still had to secure the Democratic nomination through the party’s delegate process.

By July 30, the Democratic National Committee announced that Harris was the only candidate who had obtained enough delegate signatures to qualify for its presidential nominating ballot.

A total of 3,923 delegates had signed petitions supporting her candidacy, according to the DNC.

The party then conducted a virtual roll call from August 1 through August 5. Harris ultimately received the support of 99 percent of participating delegates and was formally certified as the Democratic presidential nominee.

Those facts complicate Cuomo’s suggestion that Biden simply “forced” Harris on the party.

Biden’s endorsement undoubtedly carried enormous political influence, particularly because the Democratic primaries had already taken place and Election Day was just over three months away. But Democratic delegates formally selected Harris, and no rival candidate ultimately gathered enough support to challenge her for the nomination.

Cuomo nevertheless argued that the speed and timing of Biden’s withdrawal left Democrats in a difficult position.

The television host also revealed that he personally remained angry about how the Democratic Party handled the situation.

According to Cuomo, he became so disgusted with the process that he did not vote for Harris in the general election.

The allegation of deliberate sabotage is considerably stronger than what has been publicly established about Biden’s final weeks as a candidate.

Contemporary reporting indicated Biden resisted calls to leave the race for weeks before eventually reconsidering as polling showed his path to victory narrowing and prominent Democrats questioned whether he could defeat Trump.

There has been no publicly verified statement from Biden saying he endorsed Harris as revenge against Democratic leaders or intentionally attempted to damage the party’s chances.

Cuomo’s comments therefore remain his interpretation of Biden’s motives, supported by unnamed people whom Cuomo says have heard Biden discuss the situation privately.

The controversy also comes months after former First Lady Jill Biden revealed just how alarming her husband’s 2024 debate performance appeared even to her.

Speaking in a May 2026 interview, Jill Biden said she was “frightened” while watching the debate and initially wondered whether her husband might be suffering a stroke.

“I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since,” she said.

The former president did not suffer a stroke during the debate, but the performance became the turning point in his reelection campaign and ultimately helped set off the Democratic revolt that ended his candidacy.

Harris suddenly found herself running a presidential campaign with only 107 days remaining before Election Day.

Trump ultimately defeated Harris in November 2024 and returned to the White House.

More than two years later, Democrats are still debating whether the party could have produced a different outcome if Biden had withdrawn earlier, if an open nomination process had been held, or if the party had followed an entirely different strategy.

Cuomo is now offering a far more provocative explanation.

He believes the disorder wasn’t simply the result of an unprecedented political crisis.

He believes Biden was angry enough to make Democrats pay for pushing him aside.

For now, however, that remains Cuomo’s allegation rather than an independently established account of what happened behind the scenes.
