Dad Goes Berserk Over Bible Verses in Son’s Halloween Candy

A Washington father who was caught on camera unleashing a profanity-filled tirade at a Christian family over religious pamphlets in his son’s Halloween candy is doubling down on his outrage, now accusing the neighbors of trying to “groom” his children.

The explosive confrontation unfolded on Halloween night in Bellevue, Washington, after the unidentified father discovered Christian messages tucked inside his son’s trick-or-treat bag. Rather than simply throwing away the literature, he drove back to the family’s home and launched into an angry confrontation, all while his young son sat inside the car.

Video of the encounter, shared by independent journalist Jonathan Choe, shows the father shouting obscenities, making an obscene gesture toward the person filming and mocking the family’s religious beliefs. The footage quickly spread online, drawing criticism from viewers who questioned why a Halloween pamphlet had sparked such an extreme reaction.

But the father isn’t backing down from his objections.

In a written statement to the Daily Mail, he acknowledged that his behavior was inappropriate while insisting the family had crossed a line by introducing religion into a children’s Halloween tradition.

“I do not need people proselytizing on a holiday that is supposed to be about kids getting candy,” he said, explaining that his children were upset after discovering the religious materials.

He went even further, accusing the family of using Halloween treats to influence impressionable children.

The father claimed the neighbors were enticing children with candy before promoting Christianity, saying the approach felt like “grooming” to him. There is no reported evidence that the family engaged in predatory behavior, and the accusation appears to stem entirely from his objections to the religious literature.

The pamphlets at the center of the controversy featured a cheerful pumpkin illustration alongside the message “Jesus loves you so much.” Other materials explained Christian teachings about sin, forgiveness and salvation, included a prayer and directed recipients to a Bible study. One pamphlet also featured John 3:16, one of Christianity’s most widely recognized Bible verses.

For the father, however, the messages were anything but welcome.

During the recorded confrontation, he repeatedly condemned the family’s decision to distribute religious literature to children, mocked Christianity and demanded that they stop attempting to convert trick-or-treaters.

At one point, he shouted, “Don’t try to convert kids on a f***ing holiday!”

The father later admitted to the Daily Mail that he had made a fool of himself, describing his reaction as irrational. He nevertheless maintained that parents should be able to decide when and how their children are introduced to religious beliefs.

He also claimed that he initially attempted to discuss the matter calmly but became upset after an exchange with the neighbor. That account has not been independently verified, and the viral footage does not capture the entire interaction.

The incident has since ignited a heated online debate about religious expression, parental boundaries and how far adults should go when confronting neighbors over disagreements.

While some questioned whether religious pamphlets belonged in children’s Halloween bags, many viewers argued that the father’s furious response was wildly disproportionate to the situation. Others pointed out that parents who objected to the literature could simply discard it.

What began as a disagreement over Halloween candy has now become a viral controversy, with the father’s explosive behavior drawing nearly as much attention as his accusations against the Christian family.

  1. This individual is really unbalanced. I feel very sorry for his children and his wife if she’s still around.

  2. Why have people become so easily triggered into extreme tantrums? This is supposed to be a father setting an example for his son. Wow….wonder what the little boy will tell the teacher when she asks, “Did you have fun on Halloween?”
