Shouting Match Erupts Between Secret Service Director and GOP Rep

A heated confrontation unfolded during a House task force hearing as Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe and Texas Representative Pat Fallon sparred over alleged lapses in security following two assassination attempts on President-elect Donald Trump. Fallon criticized Rowe’s leadership, particularly his delayed response to the Butler, Pennsylvania, shooting in July and his controversial presence at a 9/11 memorial event.

Fallon lambasted Rowe for waiting several days before visiting the Pennsylvania site where Trump narrowly survived a shooting on July 13. The congressman also presented a photo showing Trump unprotected at a 9/11 memorial in New York, accusing Rowe of prioritizing visibility over security.

“Who is usually closest to the President at events like this?” Fallon demanded, alleging that Rowe’s attendance at the memorial disrupted the chain of command and endangered Trump.

Rowe, visibly agitated, countered by defending his actions and invoking his personal connection to 9/11. “I was there at Ground Zero, going through the ashes of the World Trade Center. I was there to honor a Secret Service member who died,” he said. He accused Fallon of politicizing the tragedy, exclaiming, “Do not invoke 9/11 for political purposes.”

The tension escalated as Fallon accused Rowe of using the memorial as an audition for the permanent director role. “You wanted to be visible because you’re angling for a job you’re not doing,” Fallon said, calling Rowe’s response “a bunch of horse hockey.”

Rowe fired back, asserting his dedication to public service and denouncing Fallon’s remarks as inappropriate. “You are way out of line, Congressman. I’ve spent my life serving this nation,” he shouted.

Behind the scenes, some Secret Service agents have expressed concerns about Rowe’s leadership. They argue that his attendance at the memorial jeopardized the command structure during Trump’s visit. Agents were also critical of the delayed response to the Butler shooting, where Trump was targeted by a lone gunman.

Fallon later told reporters that Rowe’s explosive outburst during the hearing demonstrated a lack of composure required for leadership. “He blew up like a child,” Fallon said, adding, “My prediction is come January 20th, he will not be retained as director.”

Rowe admitted during the hearing that he was not the special agent in charge at the 9/11 memorial but insisted his presence did not compromise protective operations.

As investigations into the July shooting continue, the Secret Service faces intense scrutiny over its ability to safeguard high-profile individuals, especially during a politically volatile period. This hearing underscores the mounting pressure on Rowe and the agency to address internal criticisms and reinforce the safety of the President-elect.
