Prince Harry Claims Jeff Bezos’ CEO Masterminded Hacking Cover-Up

Prince Harry has set his sights on media moguls in a legal showdown that’s raising eyebrows across the globe. In court filings delayed at the last minute, Harry accuses high-profile executives of orchestrating a cover-up involving illegal practices at British tabloid The Sun.

At the center of the storm is Will Lewis, a former News Group Newspapers (NGN) executive now running Jeff Bezos’s Washington Post. Harry claims Lewis “instigated and authorized” efforts to bury evidence of hacking scandals that plagued the tabloid industry over the last decade.

“This isn’t just about me,” Harry told attendees at a recent event. “It’s about holding power to account.”

The accusations aren’t new, but the scale of alleged wrongdoing is staggering. According to Harry’s legal team, NGN executives—including Lewis, James Murdoch, and Rebekah Brooks—sanctioned illegal activities such as phone hacking, vehicle bugging, and even the destruction of millions of emails to evade detection.

Tom Watson, former British lawmaker and Harry’s co-plaintiff, has long been vocal about media malpractice. He previously described the scandal as “a rot that goes to the core of our democracy.”

Rupert Murdoch, the billionaire behind NGN, is accused of misleading a Parliamentary Committee and enabling the cover-up. Murdoch’s proximity to political power is undeniable—just this week, he was spotted at Donald Trump’s inauguration. Critics see the media mogul’s influence as deeply entrenched in both politics and journalism.

“Murdoch’s media empire has always been about power, not just stories,” said a former journalist who worked for NGN during the hacking era.

Will Lewis has remained a divisive figure. While his defenders highlight his attempts to reform NGN, critics accuse him of complicity. Under his leadership, The Washington Post has seen dramatic declines, losing nearly 90% of its online readership.

In response to previous accusations, Lewis issued a terse statement: “Any allegations of wrongdoing are untrue. I have no further comment.”

Harry’s determination to take the case to trial contrasts sharply with the 14 other plaintiffs who settled similar claims. Hollywood star Hugh Grant, a prominent critic of NGN, revealed in a social media post that financial risks forced him to settle.

“These cases aren’t fought on a level playing field,” Grant wrote. “Even if you win, you lose.”

For Harry, however, the stakes are personal and political. “Accountability matters,” he said at a New York Times event in December.

In a dramatic twist, NGN reportedly made Harry a substantial settlement offer just hours before the trial was set to begin. Both sides agreed to delay proceedings until Wednesday, fueling speculation about whether Harry will accept or press forward.

Legal experts warn that rejecting the offer carries enormous financial risks. Under U.K. law, Harry could be liable for NGN’s legal fees if the court awards him less than the settlement amount.

“This is a high-stakes gamble,” said one London-based attorney familiar with the case.

Harry is expected to travel to London in February to testify, a moment that could define this high-profile battle. Meanwhile, public opinion remains divided.

“People deserve to know the truth about what happened,” said a supporter outside the courthouse.

Whether this trial delivers that truth or ends in another settlement remains to be seen. One thing is certain: the clash between Prince Harry and Rupert Murdoch is far from over.
