By all appearances, Kathy Griffin is a shadow of her former self — physically, emotionally, and professionally.
The 64-year-old comedian, infamous for her graphic photo holding what appeared to be President Trump’s severed head, was recently spotted hiking through Malibu looking frail, pale, and dramatically aged. Her emergence follows a hysterectomy she underwent in April for a pre-cancerous condition, yet the sighting has sparked fresh fears about her declining health — and relevance.
Clad in black leggings and a gray quarter-zip top, Griffin shuffled along the trail beside a female companion. Observers noted her sunken face, paper-white skin, and thinning red hair — all stark reminders of her turbulent past.
“She looked drained,” said one eyewitness. “Not at all like the loudmouth comedian who used to brag about offending everyone. It was honestly sad to see.”
FROM CELEBRITY TO INFAMY
Griffin’s fall from grace can be traced back to 2017, when she proudly posed with a mock-severed head of then-President Donald Trump. The image — which even liberal pundits found grotesque — triggered national outrage. President Trump called it “sick” and said his young son, Barron, was traumatized. Donald Trump Jr. minced no words either, saying, “She deserves everything that’s coming to her.”
The backlash was swift. Griffin lost sponsorships, got booted from CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast, and found herself blacklisted from most of mainstream media. Appearances were canceled, gigs dried up, and the Justice Department even investigated her under suspicion of threatening the president — though no charges were filed.
Griffin cried “victim” at a press conference with feminist attorney Lisa Bloom, saying Trump had “broken her life.” But many Americans saw the move as performative and unrepentant.
“She went too far, then tried to play the martyr,” said one former fan. “That doesn’t work when you’re mocking decency and then asking for sympathy.”
YEARS OF SURGERIES, SCANDALS & SELF-DESTRUCTION
Griffin has long been open about her addiction to plastic surgery — and the consequences. Over the years, she’s admitted to a botched liposuction that nearly killed her, a breast augmentation, nose job, lip tattooing, and a disastrous LASIK eye procedure that left her partially blind.
She’s also battled mental health demons, publicly revealing she attempted suicide in 2020 following a painkiller addiction brought on by chronic back issues. In 2021, she was diagnosed with lung cancer despite never having smoked. Doctors removed part of her left lung, damaging her voice in the process — a brutal blow to someone who built a career on her mouth.
In a 2023 social media post, Griffin admitted she suffers from complex PTSD, allegedly worsened by years of “Trump backlash.” She said panic attacks left her bedridden and sobbing for hours.
Still, some critics aren’t buying it.
“She weaponized victimhood after spewing hate,” said conservative commentator Jill Walker. “Now she wants pity while pretending her downfall was because of free speech? No, it was because of poor judgment and zero class.”
A LIFE OFF THE D-LIST… AND OFF THE RAILS
Once a mainstay on late-night TV and the red carpet, Griffin now mostly posts erratic TikTok videos and opens up about her mental breakdowns and hospital visits. Her Emmy-winning Bravo show My Life on the D-List feels like a distant memory.
In January, she finalized a quiet divorce from her husband of four years, marketing executive Randy Bick. The split came amid her ongoing health battles and dwindling career options.
“I wasn’t canceled. I was erased,” she told The New York Times in 2019. But even her 2019 self-funded documentary A Hell of a Story, chronicling the Trump-photo scandal, failed to restore her reputation.
Griffin now walks daily to battle depression and cope with anxiety, she says. During her recent Malibu outing, she seemed determined to reclaim some semblance of normalcy — but onlookers were more struck by how fragile she looked.
Her once-ruthless punchlines targeting conservatives, Catholics, celebrities, and even Jesus Christ have fallen flat in recent years. And for many Americans, especially Republicans, Kathy Griffin isn’t just unfunny — she’s the punchline.
“She had it all, and she burned it down just to attack Trump,” said local resident Greg Harmon. “Now look at her. That’s karma in plain sight.”
THE FINAL CURTAIN?
Only time will tell if Griffin stages a comeback — or fades quietly into Hollywood oblivion. But one thing is certain: the spotlight she once chased is now casting a very different light on her — and it’s not flattering.
