In a jaw-dropping act of destruction, a 10-year-old boy is now at the center of a police investigation after allegedly setting a massive fire inside a Wisconsin Walmart — sending flames roaring through the aisles and causing what authorities estimate to be millions of dollars in damage.
The Blaze Ignites
Chaos erupted around 8:45 p.m. Monday in Franklin, a quiet suburb just outside Milwaukee. Shoppers and employees were blindsided as thick black smoke surged through the store. Video from the scene shows fire engulfing shelves, while sirens blared in the background.
“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” said April King, a merchandising contractor who happened to be in the store when the fire broke out. “It looked like the whole party aisle was going up. I mean—what in that aisle even burns like that?”
A Child Suspect
In a disturbing twist, authorities say the fire was deliberately set — by a child.
The suspect? A 10-year-old boy from Milwaukee. Police have taken him into custody for questioning. Though the exact cause of the fire has not yet been publicly confirmed, Franklin Police have already announced that arson charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County Juvenile Justice Center.
“What kind of mindset does it take for a 10-year-old to do something like this?” King asked. “And how did he even get his hands on the stuff to start a fire?”
Evacuations and Aftermath
Thanks to the building’s automatic sprinkler system and a fast response from first responders, no injuries were reported. The store was quickly evacuated. But that didn’t stop the inferno from devouring a massive portion of Walmart’s merchandise.
“Extensive smoke and fire damage was found throughout the structure,” Franklin Fire Department said in a statement. “We’re still evaluating, but current estimates suggest losses in the several million dollar range.”
Community Shockwaves
The local Walmart has shut down “until further notice,” the company confirmed via Facebook. Customers relying on its pharmacy services are now being directed to a different Milwaukee location.
The closure is more than an inconvenience — it’s a community disruption.
“This isn’t just about a store,” said customer Anthony Tischer. “It’s about jobs. People depend on this place. And now it’s a disaster zone.”
His fiancée, Kassandra Helsick, added, “It’s terrifying. What are kids getting into these days? First it’s fights. Then thefts. Now fires? It’s pure chaos.”
A Troubling Pattern?
This fire isn’t just an isolated incident. Retailers nationwide have seen a rise in juvenile crime — from mass shoplifting to vandalism and now, apparently, arson.
As investigators continue to probe how such a young child could carry out an act with this level of destruction, locals are left rattled and wondering: Where are the parents? Where is the oversight? And how did it come to this?
The store remains shuttered. The shelves are scorched. And one community is left cleaning up the ashes of a mystery that started with a match — and a child.

Where are the parents? Where is the oversight? And how did it come to this? Kids copy what they see going on in the world. So, unless this kid grew up in a house that had no TV, he’s only replicating what he [or she] sees daily. It’s no different than when some particularly outrageous act of murder is covered in the news and it spawns one or more copycats doing the same thing. further, because of the age of the kid, he’ll receive nothing but a slap on the wrist for what was done and his juvenile record will be later dumped.
