Woman Buys Knife at Marshalls Then Stabs Shopper for Taking Too Long at Checkout

In a shocking case that has left New Jersey shoppers rattled, a 25-year-old woman allegedly turned a simple shopping trip into a crime scene — all because another customer was “taking too long” at the register.

According to Kearny Police, Amber Johnson of Newark allegedly lost her temper inside a Marshalls store on Oct. 11, yelling at another woman she believed was holding up the checkout line. Witnesses say Johnson stormed off toward the home goods aisle, where she purchased a pack of kitchen knives — then waited for the shopper outside.

Moments later, the confrontation turned violent. As the victim walked to her car with her family, police say Johnson ran toward her and stabbed her multiple times in the parking lot. “She came out swinging,” said one witness who saw the chaos unfold. “People were screaming and running. It didn’t feel real.”

The victim, whose name has not been released, was rushed to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

After the attack, Johnson reportedly fled back inside the store, where officers later found her hiding in the women’s restroom. A blood-covered knife was discovered on a nearby changing station, according to authorities.

“She was visibly agitated,” said one Kearny police officer familiar with the investigation. “When we located her, she still had blood on her clothes.”

Johnson was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and making terroristic threats. She is being held at the Hudson County Jail pending a court hearing.

Marshalls, owned by TJX Companies, issued a statement following the attack: “We are aware of the incident that occurred in the parking lot outside of our store last week. The safety and security of our associates and customers is important to us, and we’re grateful for the swift response of the Kearny Police Department.”

Residents say the incident has raised concerns about safety in the popular shopping plaza. “It’s terrifying,” said local shopper Denise Morales. “You don’t expect to go buy a sweater and end up running from someone with a knife.”

Police continue to investigate what triggered Johnson’s outburst. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to determine whether the two women knew each other prior to the attack.

Would you like me to make this version slightly more tabloid-style (with punchier phrasing and shorter paragraphs for a popular crime blog), or keep this balanced, professional-sensational tone for mainstream outlets like New York Post or Daily Mail?
