Tatiana Schlossberg, the granddaughter of former President John F. Kennedy and daughter of Caroline Kennedy, has died at age 35 after a battle with a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer.
The news was announced Tuesday by the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Library Foundation, which confirmed her death in a brief but emotional statement shared on social media.
“Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning,” the foundation wrote. “She will always be in our hearts.”
Schlossberg, who largely lived outside the political spotlight, was the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and the granddaughter of John F. Kennedy, whose legacy continues to shape American political history decades after his assassination.
In November, Schlossberg publicly revealed her diagnosis in a deeply personal essay published in The New Yorker. In the piece, she detailed the shock of learning she had a terminal, rare, and aggressive blood cancer and described the grueling medical journey that followed.
According to her writing, Schlossberg underwent an intense series of treatments in rapid succession, including chemotherapy, two bone marrow transplants, and a stem cell donation from her sister. Despite the extraordinary measures taken to fight the disease, the cancer ultimately proved fatal.
Her essay was widely praised for its honesty and vulnerability, offering a rare glimpse into the emotional and physical toll of terminal illness, as well as the love and support surrounding her during treatment.
Schlossberg’s death marks another profound loss for the Kennedy family, which has endured decades of public tragedy alongside its historic legacy. At just 35 years old, she leaves behind grieving family members, friends, and readers who were moved by her courage and voice in the final months of her life.
