JD Vance Heads into The View Lion’s Den

Vice President JD Vance is walking straight into one of daytime television’s most hostile rooms for conservatives.

After years of being mocked, condemned, and accused of everything from opportunism to hypocrisy by the co-hosts of The View, Vance is now set to appear on the ABC talk show on June 16 for what could become one of the most explosive political interviews of the year.

The appearance will make Vance only the third sitting vice president to sit down with The View, a program long known for its overwhelmingly liberal bent and combative exchanges with Republican guests.

All six co-hosts — Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro — are expected to be in the studio for the rare interview with a top elected Republican.

The timing is especially striking given the show’s long history of blistering attacks against both Vance and his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance.

According to a Media Research Center NewsBusters study, The View welcomed 341 guests in 2025, but only two were conservative, compared with 128 liberal guests. That lopsided booking history has fueled conservative criticism that the show is less of a balanced discussion panel and more of a daytime megaphone for the left.

Now, Vance is stepping into that environment anyway.

The co-hosts began targeting him almost immediately after President Donald Trump selected him as his running mate in 2024.

Joy Behar reacted to the pick by claiming it was “good news for the Democrats,” arguing that Vance was a “carbon copy” of Trump who would not help expand the Republican ticket’s appeal.

Sunny Hostin also went after Vance, suggesting Trump chose him because he would be willing to do what former Vice President Mike Pence would not.

“He is an election denier,” Hostin said at the time. “He has not committed to accepting the results of this year’s elections.”

Ana Navarro delivered one of the harshest attacks ahead of the vice presidential debate, calling Vance a “coward, duplicitous, hypocritical opportunist” and accusing him of staying silent while Trump and his supporters attacked then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

Navarro also invoked Vance’s past criticism of Trump, saying she hoped Democratic Gov. Tim Walz would remind him that he once compared Trump to “America’s Hitler.”

But the attacks have not stopped with JD Vance.

The hosts have also taken direct aim at Usha Vance, questioning her values, her marriage, and even her motives.

Hostin claimed the couple’s values did not appear to align, pointing to Vance’s Christian faith and previous comments about hoping his wife, who is Hindu, would one day “come to see” the Christian gospel.

“She was a Democrat in 2014,” Hostin said during one segment. “She’s pregnant now, but I will say that it just couldn’t be me. It wouldn’t be me.”

Hostin added that the country was in an “existential crisis” and argued that “some things are dealbreakers.”

Behar then suggested Usha Vance had changed for political gain.

“She’s addicted to the power also, and the perks,” Behar said.

The comments sparked backlash from conservatives, who accused the hosts of taking a deeply personal swipe at the second lady simply because her husband serves in the Trump administration.

Vance’s upcoming appearance could now give him the chance to respond directly to a panel that has spent years savaging his politics, his character, and even his family.

It also sets up a high-stakes moment for The View, which has often been criticized by conservatives for turning Republican interviews into confrontations while offering friendlier treatment to Democrats.

Whether the interview becomes a serious political conversation or another fiery daytime clash remains to be seen.

But one thing is clear: JD Vance is not walking into friendly territory.
