Long Time Fox News Calls it Quits

After nearly three decades as a cornerstone of Fox News, longtime anchor Neil Cavuto is leaving the network, sources have confirmed. The 66-year-old journalist, known for his calm demeanor and incisive business reporting, declined a contract renewal offer from the network and is set to announce his departure during Thursday’s episode of Your World.

End of an Era

Cavuto’s contract is set to expire at the end of the month. According to an insider, Fox News presented him with a “generous opportunity” to stay, but Cavuto opted to step away.

“Neil Cavuto’s illustrious career has been a master class in journalism, and we’re extremely proud of his incredible 28-year run with FOX News Media,” the network said in a statement. “His programs have defined business news and set the standard for the entire industry. We wish him a heartfelt farewell and all the best in his next chapter.”

Fox News has confirmed that Cavuto’s current programs—including Your World, Cavuto Coast to Coast on Fox Business, and Cavuto Live—will be hosted by a rotating group of anchors until new programming is announced in 2024.

A Legacy of Excellence

Cavuto joined Fox News at its inception in 1996, bringing a wealth of experience from previous roles at CNBC and PBS. Over the years, he became a trusted voice in financial and political reporting, earning widespread respect for his professionalism and poise.

“Neil has always been a steady hand in an often chaotic industry,” said a source close to the network. “He set the bar for what business news should look like.”

Despite his departure, Fox remains the top-rated cable news network, though like many media outlets, it is navigating financial challenges in a rapidly evolving industry.

Personal Struggles and Triumphs

Cavuto’s departure also comes after a series of health battles that have marked his tenure. In 2022, he took a five-week leave after a near-fatal bout with COVID-19, his second time contracting the virus. The illness landed him in intensive care, a stark reminder of his vulnerability as someone with multiple sclerosis and a history of cancer.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Cavuto told viewers, “Some of you who’ve wanted to put me out of my misery darn near got what you wished for. Sorry to disappoint you.”

What’s Next?

While Cavuto has not publicly disclosed his next steps, speculation is already swirling about what lies ahead for the seasoned journalist. With his vast experience and reputation, many believe he will continue to have an impact on the media landscape, whether through a new venture or as a mentor to the next generation of reporters.

For now, Cavuto’s departure marks the end of an era at Fox News, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and a towering example of integrity in journalism.
