Melania Trump Honors Global Female Heroes: “Love is Our Weapon”

At a time when the world feels increasingly divided, First Lady Melania Trump brought a powerful and unifying message to the State Department: love is the force that binds us — and fuels the fight for freedom.

Speaking at the 2025 International Women of Courage Awards, Melania Trump paid tribute to female warriors of liberty from some of the world’s most dangerous regions. This marked her fifth appearance at the annual ceremony, where she delivered a rousing speech that highlighted love not as a sentiment, but as a battle cry.

“Love is not weakness,” she declared. “It is the spark behind real courage. I’ve drawn on it in my own darkest moments, and so have these remarkable women.”

President Donald Trump praised his wife earlier this week during a joint address to Congress, recognizing her leadership in causes close to her heart — including foster care reform and defending women from abuse. But on Tuesday, the spotlight belonged solely to Melania and the women she came to honor.

Rubio Opens the Ceremony with a Message of Strength

Secretary of State Marco Rubio kicked off the event, joined by a strong lineup of female Cabinet members handpicked by President Trump. Attorney General Pam Bondi, Education Secretary Linda McMahon, Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, and Small Business Administrator Kelly Loeffler stood in solidarity with the honorees — each of whom had risked everything to fight for truth, liberty, and justice.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also attended, telling reporters afterward, “These women reflect exactly what America stands for — guts, grit, and God-given dignity.”

One Voice, One Mission

Among the honorees was Georgiana Pascu of Romania — a human rights watchdog and fierce opponent of human trafficking and organized crime. Melania Trump called her “a lioness for the voiceless.”

“Because of Georgiana’s work,” the First Lady said, “dozens of criminals have been held accountable. She fights not for attention, but because she cannot look away.”

Another honoree, Amit Soussana of Israel, was taken hostage during the brutal Hamas terror attack on October 7, 2023. Now a tireless advocate for hostages still in captivity, Soussana represents what Melania called “love that refuses to break, even under the boot of evil.”

Love as a Universal Language

This year’s recipients came from nations many Americans hear about only during times of conflict — Burkina Faso, Yemen, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea. But Melania Trump turned their pain into purpose.

“These women didn’t run,” she said. “They rose. Their courage is the answer to tyranny. And love — real love — is the common thread that weaves them together.”

The International Women of Courage Award, now in its 19th year, has honored over 200 women from more than 90 countries. Nominees are handpicked by U.S. embassies abroad and vetted by senior officials in Washington.

Legacy in the Making

Melania Trump has long favored substance over spotlight. Her return to the State Department follows a recent appearance on Capitol Hill where she joined a bipartisan push to criminalize revenge porn.

Nick Clemens, her spokesman, summed up her role at the IWOC ceremony simply: “Mrs. Trump believes love is the most powerful tool we have. These women prove it.”

With America’s enemies growing bolder and freedom under constant threat, Melania Trump’s words struck a patriotic chord.

“Love isn’t naïve,” she said in closing. “It’s revolutionary. It transforms pain into power and silence into a roar.”

For many watching — both in the room and across the globe — that roar sounded a lot like hope.
