‘Useless and Inept’: Democrat Voters Turn on Their Own Party

In the wake of President Donald Trump’s stunning 2024 victory and commanding first 100 days back in office, Democrats aren’t just divided — they’re demoralized. And now, some of their most loyal voters are unloading on the party they once proudly supported.

In a blistering New York Times Opinion feature, rank-and-file Democrats ripped into their party’s leadership, messaging, and inability to connect with average Americans. Their words? “Useless.” “Inept.” “Disconnected.” And for many, the frustration has boiled over into outright disillusionment.

“No One Cares How Villainous Trump Is”

One Texas Democrat named Terrell didn’t hold back. “You need to go back to the drawing board and reconnect with common people,” he said. “We know how bad it is… No one cares how villainous [Trump] is.”

That line — delivered without hesitation — signals a fundamental shift in the political conversation. Democrats once rallied around anti-Trump messaging. Now, even their own base is tuning it out.

The ‘Resist’ Playbook Has Expired

Ariel from Indiana echoed that point. “Focusing on Trump and how bad of a threat he was didn’t work,” she said. “They were too focused on 2020… but 2024 was different. He was already in power.” Instead, Ariel suggested Democrats take notes from the far-left flank of their own party, like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who’ve launched the “Fight Oligarchy Tour.”

But while some still believe the Democrats can course-correct, others think they’ve already run out of rope.

Young Voters Abandon the Party’s Old Guard

Ashley, a 19-year-old voter from New York, said the party has lost its moral compass. “It’s hard to even defend Democrats anymore. They don’t stand on their convictions,” she said. “It’s tiring. We just need hope. And I’m not getting that.”

Frustration with party leaders like Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries was a common theme. “Schumer caved on the budget and then tried to act like we didn’t understand why,” Ariel said. “Jeffries told people on TV, ‘We can’t really do anything.’ That’s not leadership.”

Ashley called the whole thing “performative.” “You’re getting killed, but you’re still running the same game,” she said. “What are you doing to really reconnect with people?”

Biden Regret, Harris Vanishing Act

Some voters even blamed Joe Biden for dragging the party down by seeking re-election. Others questioned Kamala Harris’ visibility during the campaign. According to one respondent, the Vice President “didn’t have enough time to even campaign — where was she?”

Van Jones, a longtime Democratic commentator, recently admitted on CNN: “The Democratic Party is screwed. They don’t know what to do.”

Republicans: Take Note

With Trump back in the Oval Office and Democrats consumed by internal chaos, this could be the moment Republicans have been waiting for — a fractured opposition, a flailing message, and a base that’s turning on its own leaders.

As one Missouri voter named Laura put it: “Fighting Trump isn’t the answer. We’ve got to talk. But right now, nobody’s listening.”

And that silence may be the loudest warning of all.
