GOP Congresswoman Reveals the ‘Greatest Threat’ to American Women

Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) isn’t mincing words when it comes to what she believes is the most urgent threat facing women in the United States: the rise of radical Islamic influence in American politics.

In a fiery interview on The Hill’s Rising this week, Greene took aim at Democratic Socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani, who recently secured a controversial victory in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary. Greene’s warning? The creeping normalization of Sharia law.

“This hits hard,” Greene wrote in a now-viral post on X (formerly Twitter), featuring an edited image of the Statue of Liberty cloaked in a burqa. When asked by host Niall Stanage what she meant, Greene didn’t hesitate:

“I’m an American woman, and I have every freedom not to bow to a religion that would force me to cover my body and live under brutal restrictions. That is a real threat to American women, and we shouldn’t pretend it’s not.”

Pressed further on whether her post was a direct response to Mamdani’s rise in New York City politics, Greene doubled down.

“Absolutely. A Muslim takeover—or Sharia law being pushed into our culture—is a threat to every single American woman. That’s not fearmongering. That’s the truth.”

Greene emphasized she wasn’t against religious freedom—but drew a sharp line at what she sees as the potential for anti-American legal systems to take root in the U.S.

“I’m 100 percent opposed to Sharia law, unapologetically. I don’t care what party you’re in or what religion you follow—Sharia law is incompatible with our Constitution and the rights of women.”

Who Is Zohran Mamdani?

Mamdani, who immigrated from Uganda as a child and became a U.S. citizen in 2018, has positioned himself as a far-left progressive. His mayoral platform includes government-funded child care, free bus service, and a citywide rent freeze—policies critics call both unrealistic and dangerously socialist.

While Mamdani hasn’t publicly advocated for Sharia law, Greene and other Republican leaders say it’s about more than policy—it’s about cultural erosion.

“Once you normalize radicals in power,” said Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN), “you open the door to all kinds of extremism.”

Ogles recently made headlines for writing to Attorney General Pam Bondi, demanding an investigation into Mamdani’s background and immigration status. “Little Muhammad,” he called the candidate—a nickname that sparked outrage from progressives but gained traction in conservative circles online.

Trump Joins the Chorus

President Donald Trump also weighed in, slamming Mamdani as a “communist lunatic” and warning that his victory reflects how “deeply broken” the Democrat Party has become.

“He looks terrible. And what he stands for is worse,” Trump told supporters at a rally in Pennsylvania. “This is what happens when you let the far left run wild.”

Bigger Picture: A Crossroads for American Women?

While mainstream media rushed to dismiss Greene’s comments as xenophobic or exaggerated, others see her remarks as a wake-up call.

“Marjorie is speaking the truth no one else in Congress wants to touch,” said Sarah Vance, a conservative women’s rights advocate. “If we’re not vigilant, we will lose the freedoms our mothers and grandmothers fought for.”

Meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a major win for pro-life advocates, siding with South Carolina’s efforts to defund Planned Parenthood through Medicaid—a decision hailed by conservatives as a “step toward protecting true women’s health.”
