NFL star Jadeveon Clowney may have landed a deal with the Dallas Cowboys this week, but he had a run-in with the law just two days before putting pen to paper.
The 32-year-old defensive end was reportedly arrested on September 12 in his hometown of Rock Hill, South Carolina. According to local reports, Clowney was booked on two misdemeanor charges: trespassing and failure to identify.
The incident? Police say Clowney attempted to park in a private lot that had clearly been marked as closed. Despite being warned, the three-time Pro Bowler allegedly parked there anyway, which led to his arrest.
Surprisingly, the arrest didn’t stall his NFL future. Just two days later, on September 14, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones proudly announced Clowney had signed with Dallas shortly after their dramatic Week 2 overtime win against the New York Giants.
Clowney is no stranger to movement in the league. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, he has played for six teams prior to the Cowboys—including the Texans, Seahawks, Titans, Browns, Ravens, and most recently, the Carolina Panthers.
During the 2024 season, Clowney started all 14 games with the Panthers, recording 5.5 sacks, 46 tackles, and nine tackles for loss. Despite signing a two-year, $20 million deal with Carolina in March 2024, he was released just one year in.
The Cowboys will now be his seventh NFL team as he enters his 12th season.
Across 140 games, Clowney has racked up some impressive numbers:
- 409 total tackles
- 58 sacks
- 108 tackles for loss
- 9 fumble recoveries (3 returned for touchdowns)
- 1 career interception
The Cowboys (1–1) are gearing up for a Week 3 showdown against the winless Chicago Bears (0–2) this Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
Despite the off-field hiccup, Clowney is expected to suit up and make an impact as Dallas looks to bounce back and climb the NFC rankings.
