Former NFL quarterback and FOX Sports analyst Mark Sanchez is recovering in the hospital after reportedly being stabbed in Indianapolis just hours before he was set to cover Sunday’s game between the Colts and the Raiders.
FOX Sports confirmed the shocking incident in a statement, saying Sanchez is in stable condition and receiving medical care. “Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition,” the network said. “We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
TMZ Sports was the first to report that Sanchez had been injured early Saturday morning in what police described as a violent altercation. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a “physical disturbance” shortly after midnight near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street.
Authorities said two men were involved — one suffered lacerations and the other sustained stab wounds. The stabbing victim, believed to be Sanchez, was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition. Investigators described the incident as “isolated” and confirmed it was “not a random act of violence.”
Sanchez, 37, a former New York Jets quarterback known for leading the team to back-to-back AFC Championship Games, retired from the NFL in 2019 and transitioned into broadcasting. He was scheduled to call Sunday’s matchup between the Colts and Raiders at Lucas Oil Stadium before the shocking attack.
Police have not released additional details or identified any suspects, but the investigation remains ongoing.
