Mom Dies After Being Pinned by Her Own SUV While Checking on Her Baby (Video)

A heartbreaking accident claimed the life of a Massachusetts mother last Thursday evening, October 9, as she was checking on her baby in the backseat of her SUV.

Police in Lawrence say 37-year-old Sujey Bernabel had parked her 2015 Honda CR-V on Currier Street and stepped out to tend to her infant when the unthinkable happened — the SUV began rolling backward. As Sujey tried to stop it, she was tragically pinned between her vehicle and another car parked behind it.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, and Sujey was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her baby, who was also taken to the hospital as a precaution, was not injured.

Neighbors were left stunned and devastated. One local resident, Francelys Bonilla, described the scene to reporters: “I started praying for her. I saw the cops and the firefighters trying to get her back to life, and unfortunately she couldn’t make it.”

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. The Lawrence Police Department is working alongside the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services.

In a statement, local police expressed their condolences: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family.”
