Student Found Plotting ‘Armed Ambush’ on Campus Police After Chilling Notebook Discovery

Authorities say a University of Delaware student meticulously mapped out a plan to attack campus police — sketching diagrams, naming an officer, and stockpiling weapons in what prosecutors describe as a “deeply alarming plot.”

Federal officials announced that 25-year-old Luqmaan Khan was arrested last week after a traffic stop in New Castle County turned up an arsenal — including a Glock handgun loaded with 27 rounds, three additional high-capacity magazines, an armored plate, and a marble notebook filled with attack plans.

The Discovery That Changed Everything

Inside that notebook, investigators say, were chilling details.
According to the Justice Department, Khan had written about how to evade police detection, identified specific University of Delaware Police Department officers by name, and even included a sketched layout labeled “UD Police Station,” showing entry and exit points.

“This was not idle talk. These were operational notes,” one federal source told Fox News. “He was preparing for something that could have caused mass harm.”

A Cache of Weapons at Home

The FBI’s subsequent raid of Khan’s Wilmington residence revealed even more. Agents recovered a Glock 19 pistol fitted with an illegal machine gun conversion device, a .556 rifle with a scope and red dot sight, 11 extended magazines, hollow-point ammunition, and a tactical vest with ballistic plating.

Prosecutors said the gear was consistent with a “planned assault.”
“The writings, the weaponry, the tactical preparation — this was a blueprint for violence,” Acting U.S. Attorney Julianne Murray said in a statement.

Khan now faces federal charges for possessing a machine gun, carrying a potential 10-year prison sentence.

University Officials React

In a letter to students, Interim University President Laura Carlson called the discovery “frightening to all of us.”
“The University has temporarily separated the student and issued a campus-wide ban while legal matters are resolved,” Carlson wrote. “We’ve been in constant contact with law enforcement and have been cleared to share this information publicly.”

Carlson emphasized that there are “no known or immediate threats” to the university community, but acknowledged that evidence clearly pointed to a planned attack on the University Police Department.

A Rare Federal Intervention

The Justice Department praised the cooperation between campus police, the FBI, and state authorities, saying the arrest “prevented what could have been a tragedy.”

“This case is a textbook example of local and federal law enforcement working hand in hand to stop a potential act of violence before it began,” Murray added.

Khan’s motive remains unclear. Authorities have not said whether he ever attempted to carry out the attack, but they described his writings as “methodical” and “disturbingly specific.”

The investigation is ongoing, and officials say more charges could follow as they examine the contents of Khan’s notebook and digital devices.
